The Viking Age is often associated with maritime expansion, raiding, and trade, but a new exhibition at Museum für Archäologie Schloss Gottorf, Schleswig, Germany, offers a different perspective. Titled Wikingerdämmerung: Zeitenwende im Norden (“Twilight of the Vikings: A Turning Point in the North”), the exhibition delves into the profound societal changes that reshaped the Scandinavian world in the 10th and early 11th centuries. From the centralisation of power to the spread of Christianity, the exhibition presents a nuanced view of a transformative period in Nordic history.
