In May 2017, archaeologists from the National Historical Museums in Sweden embarked on what was anticipated to be a routine preliminary excavation of a Stone Age settlement near Tvååker, Halland. The local council had planned infrastructure developments, including a new roundabout and water pipelines, necessitating the archaeological survey. Initial findings comprised flint artefacts and a furnace typical of such sites. However, the excavation soon unveiled a far more significant discovery: an extensive Viking Age burial ground.
