The piece consists of a circular base with intricate single-strand interlace and an attached sub-oval section modelled as a stylised human face wearing a horned, bird-headed helmet. The “horns” are inward-facing bird heads with touching beaks that form a loop. Interlacing ribbon animals feature beneath the head. The facial features are mask-like, with a long nose, simple eyes, and a curved moustache.
The gilding survives well on the front, though iron corrosion covers the back.
The motif has been linked to depictions of Óðinn with his birds Huginn and Muninn. However, recent interpretations view it instead as a broader symbol of authority, elite identity, or Scandinavian cultural influence.
